It's interesting to ponder, but isn't testable.
In order to prove or disprove it, you'd have to demonstrate that our universe contains, or doesn't contain, some property that the "real universe" doesn't (or does). In order to do this, we'd have to know the properties of an unsimulated universe, which would require the knowledge that that particular universe is unsimulated before the investigation is even carried out. --- If this signature appears blue, you need to consider not doing whatever it is you're doing. ... If it is possible to simulate an entire existence that truly covers the infinite scope of the all that exists, then the odds of being in a simulation are pretty much 100%. Much like a random number is almost guaranteed to not be an integer despite there being an infinite number of both integers and not integers, we would be much more likely to be in a simulation than not.
I tend to think civilizations die off before they ever reach the ability to create a such a simulation. I suspect the predictable and especially the unpredictable consequences of dealing with hyper advanced technologies are too great for a civilization to survive. But if any do, then we are practically guaranteed to be in a simulation. If simulations can only express a finite amount of information and possibilties, then what matters is the average size of a simulation versus the frequency in which they appear through out all of existence. --- https://imgur.com/SJyzEFW by SmidgeIsntBack ... I think if we were in a simulation, it's very unlikely that it would be so realistic as to be indistinguishable from a normal reality or a simulation, considering that making things perfectly logical with no mistakes take more painstaking effort than a paradise or other such nonsensical reality. And to that end, why make it perfectly realistic in the first place if reality is misery? It's just like how people say evidence of evolution is to test our faith in God. To me, it's just a bunch of wishful thinking. By that logic, I assume we must NOT be in a simulation.
