It's correct, but it's also overly idealistic I think. I also think it applies less and less the further down the academic chain you go. Freshmen in general ed classes are pretty much high school students. Also very possible that the culture among students in Germany and the US is very different. Wouldn't surprise me, since they're so much better in most areas lol.

Loathe as I am to ever agree with HiddenRoar about literally anything, his post is very true, and not at all uncommon especially in those lower levels.
