This seems to be an underrated and un-talked about issue these days. People like Metal Jesus Rocks have become certified scam artists, imo. There is no doubt this dude makes a six digit figure from Youtube revenue alone and he still has a Patreon. Not only that, but he's one of these guys that will only reply to people who are providing a monthly commitment to his Patreon. How sick is that? It now costs money to CONVERSE with someone online? Or have them answer your question? What kind of people do that? It's disgusting.

What's even more surprising (sadly) is that people willingly donate to others for even 15 seconds of attention. I mean, it's one thing if a streamer/YTber is STRICTLY surviving on tips (and most that do provide MUCH better streams imo) but in many of these cases it's like a bonus for the YTber/streamer. And that...to me, is bullcrap.

Going back to MJR; this dude...I mean, people need to pay attention. Last year he made a video of his basement leaking complaining about how much it was gonna cost to fix. In said video, he left a link to his Patreon in two different spots in his description. He tries to draw a connection with the viewer as this nice guy who loves video games but he manipulates his viewers to feel bad for him and constantly "donate" video games to him FOR FREE. The more money you commit to his Patreon, the more he will acknowledge your existence. Now, a few months later this dude is taking a trip to Japan. Yeah. So much for those uh "money issues".

A few months after that? The dude has now purchased a larger home. Not only does this look really bad, but the dude has been caught manipulating others on e-mail. He'll give them shout-outs if they pay him X amount of dollars. He has also been caught trying to inflate the value of a "rare" game. Some crap indie game that is literally worth TEN CENTS on the e-store but had a limited physical run. He tried to buy as much as he could to create an artificial rarity of said game. Tried to get his viewers to buy this game to create an artificial rarity of a game that is worth ten cents. Selling it for like 100000% more.

Stop donating to these people. They're well off and they don't need your handouts. Donate to people who actually need the money.

You can beg strangers online for money too, if you want to

That fat bastard The Completionist became unbearable in the middle of his top 10 Dreamcast games video. It's funny, because he'd have plenty of money if his fatass saved one week's worth of snack money.

Jesus, no wonder Greg left.

I have more integrity than that and I'm nowhere near as well off as MJR. When I converse with people online, I do it for fun; not for financial gain. I don't need to steal other people's hard earned money.

Its not stealing if they voluntarily give it to you and feel like they got something of value in return

imagine being mad that lots of people believe that content creators deserve to be paid for their labor

I feel like you didn't read what I posted. This is about extra income on top of what they're already making. He deserves to be paid for his labor and he is from YT ad revenue.

i dont really have a problem with patreon. you pay a small fee and gain access to additional services. that isnt ebegging, that is paying for a service and getting a service. nothing wrong with letting your viewers know that service exists.

i do have a problem with some forms of ebegging, like when ReviewTechUSA was asking for money so that he could buy a camera. that one is kind of fucked up.

Most don't make a lot of money from Youtube. The largest channels do, if they're not constantly demonitized, but most make money from other sources. Sponsors, merch, patreon, etc. I would think carefully about who you support but ultimately it's up to each individua who, if anybody, they want to support.
