Or got popular. Or styles It seems this generation Djent and the current style of 8 finger tapping were the main innovations, not that 8 finger tapping hasnt been around, but now in the tosin abasi style.

Some older proggy artists made a comeback in new styles, Steven Wilson, devin Townsend, opeth. Periphery got popular that decade.

it seems artists from the past have made comebacks like AC/DC, slayer, dream theater.

pop punk seems to have died

So I guess the 2010s main contribution was adding more polyrhythms?

Alestorm's first album was in 2008, that's almost in the last decade.

Well im not gonna claim they are the greates. Ice Nine Kills has some decent horror themed songs they did start in 2002 but didnt hit there stride until 2018

American band/solo project Hell started in 2009 and has made some of the best doom/sludge metal I've ever heard. He first released a trilogy of albums(I, II, and III), followed up by a self-titled in 2017, and a new one earlier this year.

I don't know if he would generally be regarded as "great" though, and I doubt he is aiming for mainstream success.

After looking a bit, both were around in the 00s but didn't get big until the 10s
