It's one huge story, and it's worth reading.

I should note there are multiple character arcs across the world he built, but they're all important and interact.

How similar to game of thrones

That reminds me, I have the first wheel of time book here.

People who have read the series, how's the stuff by the different author? My English teacher in 11th grade told me it just wasn't the same for her back in 2012, and she's the only person I met that read the series lol.

iirc, Robert Jordan left notes about how he wanted the story to go on, and his wife specifically chose the dude to continue the story, and by most accounts, he did the story justice

I read the first book and generally enjoyed it, but felt a little "cheated" that something plot critical happened to each of the main characters... I understand that's normal storytelling (you don't introduce characters that don't have anything happen to them), but I felt it was "too convenient" that the story had something cool in store for each other four people we met from the first village.

book 12 was kinda obvious who wrote what, and Sanderson had some trouble with (at least) one character. but it wasn't bad, by any means.

infinitely better than not having it end (or just getting Jordan's notes). would have rather Jordan lived for another 30 years, though.

It is still good. The first book Sanderson took over you can sort of see the differences, but he gets better at writing in Jordan's style

Its good, but could desperately use abridging. Robertson was not overly wordy like Tolkien can be but the series has a huge number of B and C plots that might have made sense in world but added layers that weren't really needed. Like everything involving the Children Of Light could have been cut with zero issues, the entire book of Winter's Heart could have been condensed to 100ish pages, etc.

It can be incredibly hard to follow at times because you won't hear anything about a subplot for several books sometimes and then a book will hyper focus on it leaving you struggling to remember who was doing what. Also, as a whole the series needed a much wider variety of names. Imagine if a series had 20ish main characters, all active at the same time timeline wise, but 7 of them were named Eric, Erik, Aric, Arik Aeric, Aerik, and Erick. And for some reason Aric, Aeric, and Erik are not in books 7 or 8 then book 9 is all about what they were doing during books 7 and 8.

Would I suggest it to new readers? Only if they like reading other massive epic fantasy series. Robertson makes Tolkien seem simple and direct. I'd compare it to the Sword Of Truth series or Malazan Book of the Fallen, although the former is less complex and the latter is far, far more complex lol

It is. I read all the books but honestly didnt enjoy Robert Jordans style of writing. A lot of repetitiveness and sexism. The main characters are extremely whiny and I kept hoping they would get better eventually but they take a loooong time to. I still enjoyed the overall story but books 6-10 are some of the worst to get through and it actually made me take a year break from them. I honestly preferred the books when Sanderson finished writing. The last book and ending was one of the best Ive ever read though and it made the entire journey worth it.

If you thought the books were sexist then you clearly weren't paying attention very well.

Anyway they are absolutely worth reading. Especially now that the the series is over they can just be read straight through without having to worry about forgetting plot points or characters. By far my favorite fantasy series. Its just to bad the tv show seems to care more about casting for woke points then following the actual story.

There is constant whining and stereotyping of both genders. Men this and women that. It got super tiresome. And so many female characters are absolutely terrible, especially the Aes Sedai. Im not the only person to have complained about all the gender stereotyping in the books.

That was the point. Both genders stereotype the other even though its not really the truth. It wasn't to be sexist it was to show preconceived notions aren't always true. Like the three main male characters each saying the other two are better with women. They are just assuming something even though its shown to not be true.

As for the Aes Sedai, they live for hundreds of years and literally have magical powers, of course they are going to act like stuck up bitches who think they know it all. But as we see throughout the series they don't and some learn that lesson that they need help and can't do it all on their own. Others not so much.

So the thing with gender's interacting poorly with each other makes sense within the historical context of the world. Men destroyed the world, men who channel go mad and fuck shit up. Women are the only ones who can wield the power. So women have spent the majority of thousands of years since the breaking either directly running shit or manipulating it behind the scenes and so see themselves as the superior gender. Men of course resent the way they are percieved and thus the relationships can be strained.

Within the context of our world yeah it would all be sexist, but within the world the Jordan built it makes sense. It can still be annoying at times where you just want to scream "ffs will you people just communicate with each other". The series is, as a whole, quite enjoyable though.
