I don't think anything the government does in the US will help much because it's a cultural problem. A lot of countries with less than 1000 deaths in East Asia never did lockdowns or anything like that because people were already being cautious and wearing masks from the start. You just can't get enough Americans to do these things no matter what you do.

^ ALL THIS.
I remember back in March we went into a lockdown and all we had to do was stay indoors (or in some others cases, wear a mask and do social distancing) for a few weeks and we would have been good.
What happens?

Two weeks... TWO mother fucking weeks into quarantine, people are bitching and complaining and protesting about being locked down.... many over political reasons... which then causes a domino effect of shit show after shit show to happen.
And because it's a fucking election year, BOTH of the main political sides (and I am placing TONS of blame on BOTH sides) are playing a pissing contest with each other while people get sick and some are even dying.
What the flying fuck!!!

Even from a financial standpoint, I eventually got unemployment (TONS of extra money with it) a $1,200 stimulus check, and there are tons of ways to get financial assistance if one has a business or needs a little extra help.
But no, some people couldn't stand being in doors for more than two mother fucking weeks and decided to fuck everything up in multiple ways for everyone else (even resulting in others losing their unemployment as they were prematurely forced back to work in the middle of a fucking pandemic).

This coronavirus problem is a MEDICAL issue, this never should have been turned into a political issue. Because it got turned into a political issue, that's why this virus that should have vanished (or at least permanently flattened hard enough to the point of being irrelevant and rare) by the end of May is currently out of control and appears that it may get much worse and threatens to make more people sick and kill others.
Nail on the fucking head right here.

I don't know how you can say we're taking more precautions than ever when we're about to open up schools and colleges across the country

Especially schools. Some of the grade schools in Georgia are fucked up right now with a bit over 1,000 kids and teachers being quarantined very recently and it's only been two weeks of school over there so far in the districts that already opened. It will get much worse before August ends.

Colleges are also now fucked as well:
"Universities scramble to deal with virus outbreaks"

"North Carolina's flagship university canceled in-person classes for undergraduates just a week into the fall semester Monday as the school and other campuses around the U.S. scrambled to deal with coronavirus clusters linked in some cases to student housing, off-campus parties and packed bars."

ALSO...

"At Oklahoma State in Stillwater, where a widely circulated video over the weekend showed maskless students packed into a nightclub, officials confirmed 23 coronavirus cases at an off-campus sorority house. The university placed the students living there in isolation and prohibited them from leaving."
As a student, Im frustrated as hell, said Ryan Novozinsky, a junior from Allentown, New Jersey, and editor of the student newspaper. These are people I have to interact with."

If this were a zombie virus, 99% of us would already have died... mainly from someone else's stupidity.

I still cant believe how difficult people found it to just. stay. in. And of course on these boards you cant make a comment like that without people saying things like w-well, not everyone here is a virgin neckbeard shut-in loser! People are social creatures! when its like.. yeah no shit. Of course I miss my friends but you know what? We also have these neat devices called smartphones. Or computers. Its so easy to video chat with people. Or, hell, even texting and calling.

I cant believe that people tried to make this seem like some horrible dystopia where we were all literally isolated from one another.

The fact that people arent ashamed of thinking that way is just... frightening.

People have bills to pay and children and pets to feed. Anyone screeching about staying home that damn well know they arent going to give a penny to finance people to stay home should really shut up, even more so if they were literally going on about having police gun down and arrest people being outdoors going to the park or beach then shortly after shouting about the importance of mass gathering to protest.

Who was gunned down for going to the park?
