Smoking is the fastest way to feel the effects of marijuana, which is derived from the Cannabis sativa plant. Yet marijuana smoke contains many of the same toxins, irritants, and carcinogens found in cigarette smoke a known contributor to heart disease as well as cancer.
[...]
"As a result, everything we're told about what marijuana does or doesn't do should be viewed with a certain amount of caution. This holds equally true for the risks as well as the benefits," says Dr. Kenneth Mukamal, associate professor of medicine at Harvard-affiliated Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.

Effects of THC on cardiovascular health are more pronounced in those with existing conditions, but that doesn't mean that those without risk factors are entirely safe.

You dont actually think thats news to anyone do you?

no shit inhaling burning plants isnt good.

Difference is weed is not proven to be anything even close to the cancer risk tobacco is. More studies are definitely needed but as of right now theres not even a firmly established link between weed and lung cancer.

Im sorry someone convinced you pot wasnt addictive in any way

Who is that replying to?

anything can be addictive. Theres is a difference between physical addiction and psychological addiction. Of course weed is addictive especially for people who feel a need to alter their perception / get out of their head for a bit.

exercise and junk food are potentially addictive.

Anything pleasurable or which gives you some relief is gonna be addictive if you do it regularly.

So TC left one part out of the article:

This is not to say that prohibition is a more attractive policy, or that legalization has proven to be a public-health disaster. The big-picture view is that the vast majority of people who use cannabis are not going to be problematic users, said Jolene Forman, an attorney at the Drug Policy Alliance. Theyre not going to have a cannabis-use disorder. Theyre going to have a healthy relationship with it. And criminalization actually increases the harms related to cannabis, and so having a strictly regulated market where there can be limits on advertising, where only adults can purchase cannabis, and where youre going to get a wide variety of products makes sense.

oh the bolded is from the article bolding that sentence. I wonder why this is the only part of the article TC left out?

Thats only one of the many flaws in this whole thing. No wonder TC is seen as the laughing stock of CE.

I will thank you for this topic though. It brought Mark Kleiman to my attention.

he has some questionable moments like his support and advocation for the D.A.R.E. program but he also helped decriminalize Marijana in some major ways.

He has some interesting view. He certainly wasnt against it like TC seems to be under the impression of.

as a chronic user, i do worry about the adverse effects of vaping cannabis. it may take years before we know the full extent of the health effects from chronic vaping . i often cough after vaping so i worry its irritating the lungs in some fashion.

Valid point.

I really dont smoke much especially compared to the bowl before work, bowl on every break, nonstop bowls after work shit i did for 15 years.

Honestly i dont know if its better but it seems like it probly is logically speaking. Then again anecdotally speaking my evidence for that is probly due to the fact ive cut back a ton and dont even smoke daily vs back when i was a true stoner and the shift from smoking to vaping was around the same time my use dropped off.

In retrospect part of it was i just liked the ritual of passing a joint around tbh.

Right! Pretty much everyone who uses it knows it feels good so it can be mentally addictive. People just argue its not the same kind of addictive as drugs like alcohol or crack. It doesnt have the same physical qualities of addictiveness as drugs like those do.

People can literally die from alcohol withdrawal, for example, whereas cannabis withdrawal has never been known to cause that.

I've always found it weird how some people want to die on the "weed can't be addictive, cause any harm or adversely affect your life in any way also it cures cancer and arthritis" hill. You gotta do some serious squinty eye shit to believe that.

Can't we just make sensible statements like, "most things are good or bad depending on how you do it and how often you do it and also depending on your circumstances. Let's just allow people to do things they like so long as they don't hurt anyone else."
