in the original - Will gets into a fight with some bullies, something the show makes fun of, and Will's mom decides to send him to live with her sister and her family, where it's safer

in the reboot - Will experiences his best friend get shot to death due to gang violence, and he has to run away because he was a witness, and will often have to deal with PTSD

I wanted a one-time reunion special where the characters came back together to reminisce in light of Phil's in-universe death, and to also allow fans to catch up on what they've been doing these past twenty years. Even if the whole thing would get people right in the feels.

But a full-on drama reboot just doesn't sound good.

Damn, I read that as reunion and figured they'd all be back, but it would just have a more dramatic tone kind of like the Saved By The Bell continuation. That could be interesting.

The premise sounds different enough to where this could stand on it's own and be it's own series.

The fact that they want to tie it to the original makes me think it's more a cash grab that they won't put effort into.

Change all the names, title it something else, and go forward with a brand spanking new thing and keep anything Fresh Prince related out of this.

Eh, could be good. the fan made trailer wasn't bad and with an actual studio backing it now it has a better chance. Its only loosely based on the concept of the show, which in itself isn't that groundbreaking to begin with. It'll pull people in with the Bel Air name but we'll see if it will be able to stand on its own as a Drama like The Wire or something.

Where did it confirm anybody but Medina, Jones and Smith returning? Why would the cast return? They wouldn't be playing the same characters. Might have Smith in it here and there as some other character, but that's probably it.

I really enjoyed Battlestar Galactica. Tried getting into the original but I couldn't after a few episodes.

This reminds me of Stargate Universe being super serious and dramatic compared to SG1 and Atlantis. I did enjoy the two seasons it lasted, but it was damn near a totally different feeling show from the first two.

Though, if this can be something like Atlanta, it can definitely turn out very good. Though I'm doubting it. Atlanta is some genius shit.

Thats good, and bad to hear.

Good that its not legit, but bad that Will liked it. If they do ever make some remake of it, hopefully they dont try so hard and if its going to be serious they need to make it serious and not silly.

I'm okay with this. Original stories would be good but if they're going to try to cash in on old franchises, going for a different genre is preferable because they'll never be able to catch that same fire as before. At least try something different with the same old shit.

I'm sorry. I don't want this project to succeed. It's not out of nostalgia for the 90s show. It's just for the simple fact that sometimes you need to have shows with important social messages and sometimes you need to be allowed to have fun. Fresh Prince touched upon racism once or twice, but it wasn't the show's bread and butter.

You could easily tell the story of a change in economic and social status for a young Black man without tying it to the Fresh Prince name. They didn't copyright that concept.

Just call it something else. Why do creators nowadays always have to attach their content to something else? If they're afraid it's going to flop and hope the name will keep it alive then maybe it isn't a good idea.
