Doesn't that just support the behavioral association of "crying = getting attention?"

If the baby cries at 3AM every night, shouldn't the proper response be to... do nothing until the normal wakeup/feeding time? I feel like that would be a better route to a regular sleep schedule for the kid, yeah?

thats all fine and good until you get even less sleep because they cry for a way longer period of time

Ignoring a toddler constantly crying is one thing, ignoring a newborn crying sounds like legit psycho behavior

Babies aren't making that type of behavioral connection yet, they cry because that is literally their only way of communicating that they need something

It stunts their development because their body is constantly in stress mode. Babies need to be tended to for healthy development.

Babies dont know how to communicate or process anything so they just cry. they also dont know how to self soothe until they are a few months old. To top it off they also dont understand cause and effect so if their sleep is disrupted or they are hungry/uncomfortable/etc theyll just cry and cry and cry and you ignoring that wont do anything but make them feel worse. my kid is a little over 3 months and she is just learning to self soothe so she sleeps for longer stretches

Because its a baby and literally doesnt know better. Thats why they cry. So we can help them when they need it. They only cry if they need to eat or are in discomfort in some way.

newborns don't have a sense of time yet. It could be 3AM but that doesn't mean anything to the newborn. They're not going to know that it's not an appropriate time to cry.

So if you think about it the idea of putting a baby in a room far away from the mother is totally something that just began happening in the 19th century.

Cosleeping is what comes naturally to both baby and mother for the first 9 months or so. There have even been studies that mothers will wake up if they sense they are starting to roll onto baby.

Until they can handle real foods, they'll digest the milk or formula in around 2-4 hours and get hungry

You can stretch it, but it's so much easier once you can add food
