Prison reform was one of them...

Sigh...

If you don't get it, he's implying black people will just end up in prison. Cuz theyre black. He's racist.

don't the statistics show that a disproportionately large portion of crime is committed by blacks, meaning they'd be more likely to end up in prison though?

in the US btw

This is why learning about metaphors and literary techniques in school is not useless.

it helps all of us. every single one of us. white black whatever whoever. it reforms addicts who need treatment and/or help then they contribute to their community. it contains people who cant be helped when absolutely necessary. prison didnt fucking fix me or my brother it was nothing but crime college. if we continue locking up the mentally ill we continue handing recruits to the real criminals. the people who can be helped need HELP, not to be locked away with those who can and will take advantage of their sickness.

when i was young me and my little brother were sentenced to 4 months for him 14 months for me. he was suckered in by the AB white dude confederacy types. he was a good kid. not long after we went in he intentionally OD'd and he'd written it was the only way out of a mistake he couldnt escape. its personal for me. prison never fixed a goddamn thing. theres a place there for lunatics, but not for youthful mistakes or those sent in based on pure systemic racism

How does prison reform help me

taking disproportionate incarceration rates, unequal sentencing, and draconian criminal codes into consideration, i'd say the first step act was a very small step in the right direction

like a quarter of my aunts and uncles on my father's side of the family alone have been imprisoned on nonviolent offenses at some point or another in their lives, never mind several cousins since they've come of age

what happened? broken families, pressure on the rest of the immediate family to support the families/kids of the incarcerated when they were otherwise in a position to do so, diminished economic prospects thereafter.

it might not directly affect individuals who don't have a run-in with the law, but it ripples in other ways - and criminal justice reform, a modest inverse ripple effect, if you will.

The statistics are misrepresented and don't consider systemic racism.

Easy example: white and black people use weed at similar rates but blacks are way more likely to be imprisoned
