Why would anyone buy this?

live action mulan. some people want to see it. and it's a new take on the story. it's not just a remake like some are saying. it doesn't even have the same villain.

If this does well, expect to see Black Widow get the same treatment, but I don't expect to see any of their truly major releases get this treatment unless the theater market is looking very dire.

Thats what I see happening with whatever they have completed or near completion. If they are new productions Disney may actually scale them back.

I dont see movie theatres returning to max capacity in the US atleast for a while unless a vaccine becomes readily available. I think we are looking at a year to two span where Disneys earners like movies and parks dont perform near last years numbers.

Think about a family of 4 going to the theater...the average cost of tickets, not even counting concessions, 2 Adults, 2 Kids...you're spending more than $30 on tickets alone to watch it once. Its not $30 per person. Technically you can invite 30 people over and watch it for $1 a piece. In place of a theatrical release i don't think $30 is as absurd as some of you are making it sound.
Okay but youre not getting the theatrical experience. You are getting the home video experience, identical to what would be included with your subscription three months after the theatrical release

disney losing money doesnt justify the cost to the consumer. They are not providing any value for that cost

if a company spends billions in R&D for a pencil, the end result is still a pencil and will have to be priced as such to sell

This is definitely a test run on Disney's part. They are going to try and see if they can get theater level revenues on their movies and work from there. Fact of the matter is, for a lot of people the theater experience isn't as important as seeing a new movie at roughly the same time as the general population. Disney is hoping there are enough of those people to make this work.

Lol, NYC and Long Island. And that's a regular ticket.

My and my gf saw Infinity War and Endgame in Real3D. That shit was $27 a ticket.

There's also 4DX, which is like $40 a ticket.

I just got Disney+ last week because my GF wanted to watch Hamilton. There is literally nothing else to watch if you are over the age of 14 and don't like super hero movies (me). Its going to be a one month and done thing I think.

Even for the people that like super hero movies it seems like there isn't much content. Yeah, you have Starwars too but how many times can you watch the same movie?

The price point is pretty brutal for folk who like to watch movies alone (or have to watch movies alone). It is definitely priced to be spit by at least a couple of people. I'm guessing Disney averaged three.

kinda shitty to release on a sub service though instead of on free platforms like other movies did. I have Disney plus but I still wont watch it unless its free.
