GoW1: Kratos makes deal with Ares to be a servant in exchange for winning a battle that he is losing. Dude tricks him into killing his family. Seeks redemption from other gods by doing shit for them. They ask him to kill Ares, with the hope of Pandora's box. Kratos wants to be free of his memories, but gods make him God of War instead. He's mad af about it.
GoW2: Kratos, mad af, basically does the same shit the gods had Ares killed for. Zeus tricks and kills his ass. Gaia, a Titan, tells him he's gotta kill the sisters of fate, otherwise he'll always lose to Zeus. So he does that, does to the past where Zeus kills him, then kicks his ass. Zeus gets away to mount Olympus. Kratos goes to the past to bring a bunch of titans to the future. In the end he's riding Gaia climbing Olympus with the titans behind him, mad af, screaming about how he's gonna kill Zeus. Then 3 starts. --- <insert sig here> ... Copied to Clipboard!

keep in mind, in the first game, Kratos was fine killing innocent women and children, it's just that Ares made Kratos believe that he was killing a different innocent woman and child than his wife and daughter.
