there's a debate on the PS4 board, and I was wondering how others felt.

some are saying no - what mostly matters is giving the reader a breakdown of: performance, gameplay mechanics, story synopsis, etc.

others are saying yes, and that a reviewer should finish a game before giving their assessment.

I lean towards the latter.

If the game is so bad the reviewer couldn't be bothered to finish it, that in itself is valuable information and should be disclosed.

I think it would be nice if they did but I realize it is essentially impossible; there are far too many video games which add up to far to many hours of playtime. writing 1 review per 20-30 hours of "work" means you'd need to hire a billion reviewers

I can understand how hard that could be for some really long rpgs.

Forget months, most games have a day one patch nowadays, which means the game you buy and the game they reviewed may be fundamentally different

Depends on the game & what you define as "finish". For RPGs that can last for 30+ hours, that's not reasonable when you need to do multiple games. Some games also have multiple routes, post game, multiplayer aspects, & other stuff that makes the experience not so linear.

If they're aiming for a full comprehensive review then yeah but your standard day one review? No.

love reading reviews and having no clue what theyre complaining about. Most of the reviews I used to read they will play it after day one patch though

but these are all things that really should go into a review of a game. IMO, any reviewer worth their salt does another review after theyve actually experienced the game
