Teetotalism is the practice or promotion of complete personal abstinence from alcoholic beverages. A person who practises (and possibly advocates) teetotalism is called a teetotaler (plural teetotalers) or is simply said to beteetotal. The teetotalism movement was first started in Preston, England, in the early 19th century. The Preston Temperance Society was founded in 1833 by Joseph Livesey, who was to become a leader of the temperance movement and the author of The Pledge: "We agree to abstain from all liquors of an intoxicating quality whether ale, porter, wine or ardent spirits, except as medicine."

This. It's non-negotiable for me at this point.

I can't say how other people should live their lives but I do think a lot of people have a warped perception of alcohol caused by how ingrained it is in society, if not by the effects of the chemical itself, and subsequently normalize a bunch of bad and unnecessary problems. Speaking for myself, I didn't understand the rather robust nature of a drinking problem and considered what I knew inapplicable to my situation, until I almost died because of my usage.

But I also understand the many different reasons people drink (especially to excess) and I'd rather address those and create a society where people are drawn to it as little as possible, foregoing it of their own accord, rather than taking it away from people and offering nothing to fill the void.

Believing that other people shouldn't drink alcohol isn't the same as supporting full Prohibition laws

It's like saying "you shouldn't smoke" (although many people do support prohibition against alcohol at least in some form) - but it's basically a fact for health reasons

i used to be one then i started drinking in college and built up a decent tolerance but i started drinking a lot less
and now i have basically no tolerance so i don't drink at all

I drink occasionally, if Im with friends who are having a drink. Very very rarely on my own.

People should do what they wanna do.
