I dunno if I'd use "fun" to describe it, but Silent Hill 3 was really engaging, IMO.

it was super dark (thematically), and its atmosphere was really oppressive, that I often felt tense playing through it.

Yes of course, the atmosphere also, Specially SILENT HILL 2 I vividly remember being impressed back then,

but as a "GAME" it was boring garbage, all of the SH have never been fun games you replay over and over For Gameplay purposes.

Again you're describing it's Lore Atmosphere, the game itself is boring, story and lore carries the entire project.

I wasn't talking about the lore, though; like, let's say you're playing a horror game and you're waiting for something to pop out at you - the game's atmosphere can make all the difference.

if a game handles the atmosphere well, even if it takes a bit for something to happen, that can add to the anticipation in a meaningful way.

The lore, music, atmosphere is what sold the series, NOT gameplay. When I see SEKIRO, the gameplay of that game is what matters I can play that 25 years from now

due to Gameplay being the actual focus.

that isn't Fun gameplay. Take away the Lore Music atmosphere.....see it as a gameplay only moment, it is pure garbage.

i think the first one is profoundly creepy. the scene where he shuts the door on lisa is one of the most disturbing things i've seen in a game

The Silent HIll games aren't action games. They focus on puzzles, level design and exploration for their gameplay.

Combat is meant to be clunky for the survival horror aspect.
