Is it the most profitable? It's sold 100 milion or something cross platform. But Tetris has something like 125 million total sales. Pinball machines also topped something like 200 million

minecraft has 185 million though. That's just video games. Sorry forgot 3 zeros there.

https://www.forbes.com/sites/paultassi/2020/02/15/the-enduring-mystery-of-how-gta-5-has-sold-120-million-copies/#79d0c38d1c7b

But Minecraft and Tetris still have sold more. I'm guessing these numbers go up by the day.

It must have to do with shark cards or something and online. Much like Wow was just insane because they charged per month. What playstation is doing with ps plus too. I wonder if companies like rockstar and electronic arts get a cut of ps plus sales because of the amount of people who pay for it just to play those games online.

Keep in mind also that GTA has been $50-$60 for most of the time it's been out, whereas Minecraft was never that highly-priced.

minecraft and tetris aren't still $60 and don't have stupidly priced microtransactions that people buy like crazy for some reason. the most popular vehicles in online are in the 1.5-2.8m range so there are a TON of sales on the $40 shark cards as well.

Electronic Arts is really milking it with EA Access on top of ps plus. Shark cards on top of that too. It's crazy.

Supply and demand but really why people pay for ps plus is beyond me. You are basically paying to use an internet connection you already have. And it's a subscription based service to use their virtual servers that really don't even probably exist.

I could imagine the next GTAO being a free to play game that is jammed with microtransactions. They could make a mint off of that and help push the next gen of consoles.

I hope they don't gear their games towards online and milking their customers more. The only reason I buy GTA is for the single player and I really do imagine Rockstar gearing away from that. And really GTA V was not as good as Red Dead 2 that way.

No I'm just sorting out how greedy these companies really are. All these companies are skimping at this point for the bottom line. Ubisoft releases their games yearly and includes online free without ps plus. But the quality of their games suffer.

Rockstar is one of the few companies left that really doesn't skimp on quality too much. And that might change.

I kind of believe a video game could be the most profitable of all time. I'd need the actual facts on that. TV's etc have all sold more. But as far as brands and actual models. Liquor as well there are different brands and it costs to make and the prices they sell. They are still making a killing.

What didn't make sense there? Someone mentioned liquor and i was just expanding on that. GTA V is one game. TV's, liquor etc there are tons of different brands etc. As far as a business model with shark cards and how much it sold in a period of time it might be but I just haven't seen the actual facts.

It's said to be the most profitable entertainment product of all time. Legos, Barbie, etc, etc... Is it?

That's what I"m trying to determine. Shark cards are like the lottery so it could be with that. They have made a ton of money with that. On it's own it could be too. Lego releases different products so they are considered different. Lego has sold billions of legos though. As far as one product GTA V might be over a period of time.

Once the game is developed it costs them basically nothing to distribute it. It's the cost of a blu ray disc and reprinting the box art and everything is digital now anyways.

If a musician gets 100 million views they are really only getting a fraction of a cent off that. Where video games have a lock on piracy and distribution so they still get $60 plus shark cards and whatever else they get so it's entirely possible.

GTA V has amassed like 6 billion worldwide. Most top movies are half that. Still Star Wars has like 10 billion in box office sales and like 42 billion in merchandise. Pokemon is insane too.
