Korra is a much more interesting Avatar than Aang.

Side characters in TLA are much better though.

See, I'd be very surprised if that was the case. I wasn't a huge fan of the mild asspull they did, but it absolutely fit with the themes they had going on throughout the show.
As far as I know, they had plans to do book 4: Spirit, but it never happened due to the movie.

unlesa that ability is now part of the avatar line and passed from one avatar to another.

Book 2 of Korra heavily implied this to be the case.

What? Mastering the Avatar State has always been a part of the avatar line.

Varrick really got overused. He was fine in Season 2 and 3, but by the time he appeared in Season 4? Enough already. Also, his treatment of Zhu Li wasn't funny at all. I'm surprised she put up with his garbage for so long.

Season 3 of TLA had way too much filler and bad pacing to be really good imo. Still good tho
It has most of the best episodes of the series imo. Sokkas Master, The puppetmaster, The Boiling Rock, Ember Island Players and Sozins Comet. Its the funniest and most exciting season of the show.

That isn't true. There are rumors and the head writer said that Nick approached him about a fourth season, but it was planned from the start to just be three.

It's just an okay show, being too hit or miss to be as great as TLA. Season 1 started great, but shit the bed in the second half. Everyone hates Season 2. Season 3 was actually pretty great. Season 4 started with potential, but really jumped the shark.

Slayer_22 posted...
From what I've been told, it was just lazy pandering. I can't bring myself to watch it cuz I just honestly don't like the show, but it wouldn't surprise me if that was the case. And I am 100% someone who likes a well crafted gay relationship in a show, but most shows just...fall flat, you know? Or resort to pandering, which is even worse.

So, it really does feel like it comes out of nowhere. There are a handful of "hints" sprinkled very sparingly in a couple episodes, but those only seem like it in retrospect, when you already know the end. During an actual first watch, they don't really seem to suggest anything, because they're so minor. At the time, it just looks like former romantic rivals are actually repairing their friendship.

In fairness, the exact same things would have indicated a romantic relationship if one of them had been a dude.

Their romantic relationship only really starts after the series ended (in the comics) so it's a bit weird a lot of people only focus on that aspect

They shouldn't have given her unrestricted access to it in that case. Aang only gets it at the end of Season 3, there's no need to give it to Korra so early, or even at all.
Aang literally uses the Avatar State before Book 1 starts.

plus, Aang and Korra's stories are fundamentally different. Aang is a kid and, at the start of the show, he can only Airbend. Korra's older and is already skilled in 3 of the elements by the time her story starts.

Aang couldn't use it at will until end of season 2; it was always an involuntary defense mechanism. Then Azula kills him, and he loses access until his fight with Ozai.

iirc he was still talking even when he went into the avatar state, which makes it seem like he was conscious of what he was doing. The impression I got was that he was looking for an excuse to lash out and hurt them like they hurt him until Katara was able to stop him from making a decision he'd regret

Sure, but does he get to use it whever he wants? No, and therefore it doesn't let him curbstomp everyone everytime he's in a fight.

None of that changes my argument. If you have an action series, and you have an ability which let's your opponent curbstomp everyone they fight, don't let protagonist use it whenever they want.

<_< Am I the only one who didn't mind Korra losing her connection? Seriously, the Avatar state needed nerfing otherwise it would be a curbstomp every time unless they once again pull some **** to enhance the "normal" benders powers to absurd levels (like the comet).

I disagree. Korra is absolutely rubbish at the whole spiritual side of being the Avatar and the Avatar state is probably the most spiritual part of the being the Avatar. You are drawing on all the previous Avatar powers.

Why so many people have fallen for your shitpost trolling bait as evidenced by this post and your first post is beyond me.

lmao

sorry zaheer's "it's not a phase mom" anarchism just didn't do it for me. the fights are cool, but aside from Tenzin and Lin no one else gets interesting development

honestly despite LoK's more intense focus on political ideologies, i'd say TLA does a better job exploring the effects of imperialism, both on its victims and oppressors than any ideology in korra

korra meanwhile doesn't seem to even want to give the equalist movement any justification by portraying any non-bender persecution on-screen, and thinks "lol oh yeah he's a hypocrite" is a worthwhile criticism. zaheer despite being "for the people" doesn't have any interactions with citizens and their struggles and even threatens to genocide the remaining air nomads, and with kuvira, aside from the whole "some fascists just want to help their people but go too far" garbage, the show relegates topics like ethnic purges, concentration and re-education camps to throwaway dialogue

and that's not saying anything about the whole "extremism is bad! the real path to equality and democracy is hoping that the people in charge randomly decide to dissolve monarchies and non-elected councils and give up all their power" which is just absolutely laughable

i also think it's worth mentioning that i don't really think the writers deliberately wrote Kuvira as some "good intentions gone bad" to prop up fascism necessarily. the intent of making her sympathetic is done to apparently try to parallel her with Korra, who evidently is "a lot like her". this is so ineffectively conveyed that Korra has to flat out spell it out in the last 15 minutes of the show alongside Kuvira's sob backstory.

it's not convincing in the slightest (partly because maybe hot take alert, i think Korra's voice work is some of the weakest in the show), and i can't help but think back to the Aang/Zuko parallels which were done infinitely better

The forced triangle was also pretty lame. Bolin(?) was the only character I even kinda liked.

bolin fucking sucks imo

he's too dumb to be endearing and he isn't funny. he's also so inessential that the only way the writers can justify his presence is by throwing a bunch of love interests at him

varrick's comedy relief shtick is the one that lands, regardless of the show's questionable need to gloss over his awfullness as a person

Fair enough. I just liked him as a character when I watched is all. Also hated how much they(iirc, anyway, it's been AWHILE) kinda cucked him with his brother? I very slightly remember that.

Either way, I also remember the quality of the show dropping after Amon went on a happy journey with his bro. And I hated it. Idklol.
