I've said it before - I'm not an "end-times fetishist" sort of Christian, but Donald Trump ticks so many of the boxes for what the Anti-Christ is supposed to look like when he shows up, it's actually kind of eerie.

As someone who's no fan of the GOP, I have to say that Democrats aren't exactly innocent here.
The new financial relief bill is stalled largely due to Republicans wanting to reduce the outrageous $600 bonus per week to unemployment (not even remove it, just reduce it to a still way-fucking-better-than-2008-unemployment boost of +$200) and Democrats are fighting to keep it at $600.

At this point, if Dems are unwilling to bend on the fucking unemployment giveway that means people are making $20-$25 per hour sitting at home from jobs that paid half of that, then both sides should split the bill into separate bills. Get the shit like eviction mortatoriums that are about to be a crisis and have bipartisan support passed in a lesser bill.
I know, I know. Congress critters love giagantic fucking spending bills so they can stuff it full of pork w/o anyone noticing. But maybe this time they should just take one for the team?

The homeless can't easily do mail in voting

They have no incentive to solve this

This doesn't even involve the Democrats at this point. The Republicans can't even decide what THEY want, nevermind the Democrats. The Republicans haven't even been able to put together a bill that will pass in the Republican-controlled Senate - it hasn't even reached the point where they're talking to the Democrats and negotiating yet. The Democrats have already laid out their position; the Republicans have broken down into factions, with the fiscal conservatives arguing that they don't want to spend any more money, the at-risk senators saying they need to be generous or else they'll lose their jobs (and the senate majority) in November, the pro-business senators saying that they need to work in liability protection for workplaces that expose their workers/customers to COVID and sicken/kill them, and no one can come to an agreement on what the final bill should look like. And, again, this is all happening without even thinking about the Dems or trying to get their buy-in, because they're not even ready to do that part yet.

It's hilarious how dysfunctional it all is... or it would be if, y'know, peoples lives weren't hanging in the balance.

I've talked to multiple people that are happy as shit about sitting at home making as much or more than they were before. These people aren't gonna go back to work unless they're forcefully dragged from their homes. Do the back to work bonus and also give that bonus to people who have had to work the entire fucking time without any bonus whatsoever

The silver lining to the $600 debacle is that the idea that people actually enjoy work and find it fulfilling has been permanently proven complete fucking bs.
I knew it was all along, but a lot of people, especially on the right, seemed to have this strange idea that our labor and hard work defined us. And that people are happy to bust their ass week after week, and it's not the (actual and obvious) reason that they simply...need money to live. Any sane person who could make the same money working or not working would choose the latter.
Of course, this is only a problem because unemployment "rewards" not working. When we finally get our heads out of our asses and adopt UBI, then everyone gets the same money regardless of working or not, and you then work to earn more than the basic level needed to survive, to afford luxuries, entertainment, travel, etc...
Then exhausting and tough labor will cost employers more of a premium, because employees are no longer choosing between back-breaking labor or starving, and few will be willing to do it for a tiny pittance anymore.

TL;DR: Working fucking sucks and we do it b/c we have to; anyone who thinks otherwise probably got rich without ever having to do it themselves.

Amen to that....get real tired of this notion that life is only fulfilling if you desire to work hard....that's simply not true. Of course on the opposite end of the spectrum if you don't give a fuck about anything then suddenly your a mess for society to clean up one way or another.....but either way UBI is the way forward and means testing is simply impossible when considering the sheer volume of people.

Huh two of my sisters were like the exact opposite.

One of them lamented missing out on the money, but she's been trying to get a job since being laid off and recently got a job. The other also recently got a job that works for them better than their previous one.

Some people are content to not work, others go stir crazy.
