first hand:

this guy raised to 3BB with A10s

i called with pocket 2s

i hit my set on the flop but he hits his flush draw

i bet the pot, he calls and misses on the turn

his stack is equal to the pot now so i just take him all in

he calls...and hits the flush, a 16.3% chance of winning the hand

i lose $30

then

later:

i raise to 6BB with AK

dude calls me with KQ

flop comes 995, i check and he checks behind

turn comes a 10, giving him the gutshot. i check and he bets 1 BB, so I shove all in and he calls

of course the river comes a jack and he hits his straight, a 15.6% chance to win the pot, my last $20

so angry i'm done for the night, i'll just take the loss of $50

if you play every hand you're literally throwing money away

i am extremely picky about what hands i play, i only voluntarily play about 18% of hands

yes, unfortunately poker is a game involving luck. i lost 2 hands where i was 84%+ favorites

If he had a 9 would he check back the flop and bet only 0.5 on the turn? The reason I was checking was to determine the strength of his hand. Once it was obvious, I knew how to act. And I was right, I was way way ahead. Its not a tournament, so if I bust out I'm fine, I can buy back in if I really want to.

It was obvious he either had a weak pocket pair (22-55), AQ, AJ, KJ, KQ or JQ

I just don't see any real point in gambling, tbh. I've been to the casino before and slots can be fun if you hit some of the bonus rounds, but I still don't get much joy out of it, even when I win big [$400-$700]
