Joey barely knows how to play the game and the only reason he lost to Marik is because Marik put him into a coma.

marik was a terrible duelist
he won by luck. he dueled yugi a couple times when he mind controlled people and lost to him then

then when he dueled mai she got into a position where all she had to do was declare an attack and she would have won the duel on the spot since her 3 harpies had enough attack together to get rid of his monster and wipe out the last of his life points.
he only won cause she tried to beat him with his own winged dragon of ra not knowing you needed to know a special password or be magic to use it.

same thing with joey. all joey had to do was declare an attack and he would win and marik only won cause joey passed out

all their major wins were due to luck by forces outside their control
had mai not summoned the winged dragon of ra he would have lost to her
had joey not passed out at the last second he would have lost to him

he was a great villain but a bad duelist

Honestly, I think they should have saved the Joey being possessed bit for the finals. Have Joey beat Marik, get possessed, and then we have the same situation with Yami Marik using Joey's soul for the duel against Yugi instead of normal Marik's soul.

Joey actually beats Yugi after that arc. They dual off screen for Red Eyes, and the next time we see the Red Eyes card it's back in Joey's deck which means he beat Yugi.

yea, confirmed in DSOD. no way joey woulda accepted the card if he didnt win, and i dont see yugi letting joey win

i was gonna say marik beat evil bakura legit but not even that's true - he invents some power for Ra even though before that day he was just a split personality, and the main personality had no idea about that power

Evil Yugi was so ready to fuckin let Kaiba die. Kaiba's a badass but that was a pussy move on his part - Evil Yugi shoulda gone thru with it. The part where yugi's like "there's gotta be another way!" and Evil Yugi goes "There isn't" is so badass
