years ago there was some book at the town library that i wanted to check out about how NES games were going to ruin the world, and how this guy was so much smarter than his kid because he could beat him at tetris and the fact that he lost to him at all other games was somehow evidence of his intelligence

To be fair with the 5200 they barely bothered making games for it because the 2600 had the bigger userbase so that method would still fail heh.

I also have a vivid memory of a mom doing something similar like this at a Gamestop over used 360 prices. I came in right as she was already throwing a fit, but she was upset over new consoles and games costing more than the used ones. She finally just yelled "YOU'RE EXPLOITING CHILDREN", and collapsed against the counter like her world was crushed.

The kid next to her - probably her son -was just standing there with no emotion in his face. He just looked...out of it.

basically it's a tv news report from the time of just before the launch of the SNES in america. and it's talking about how people are confused on why the SNES is needed and why it costs so much more than the NES. and talking to parents mad about it

lol it's really not that different from the Fortnite stories of today. Even still have the Pacman comparison. Funny to think the gap between the SNES and Pac-man would be like Uncharted 2 and now.

Maybe better in appearance and had a few more lights and buttons from the older stuff that did pretty much the same but just cost more money.

Besides most parents didn't care that Super Mario World simply looked better than Super Mario 1.

Probably thought the NES could do the same.

they STILL do this. my parents don't understand why I am looking forward to getting either ps5 or Xbox Series X this fall (haven't picked which one yet)

they are like "dont you already have those"?

I'm glad my parents never made a big fuss about this.
