I love Texas...but fuck the heat is getting old. Plus other than around Austin, Texas doesnt have much scenery. All flat, not that great of hiking, and humid as fuck in some parts.

Was thinking of moving out to California, mainly around the Sacramento/San Francisco/Bay Area. Love the area and weather. I know its expensive, but so is Texas in most parts Ive lived in.

Maybe one of the smaller cities in the area like Modesto? Beautiful rolling hills and weather, tons of space like Texas. Great weather year round.

But the fires and earthquakes make it not as tempting...are they really that bad in California?

I hear that Roseville (area by Sacramento) is pretty affordable

edit: earthquakes aren't bad in NorCal, and I think that fires aren't bad in the central valley

i spent a month working in the Bay Area and god damn I wouldnt want to live anywhere near there

insanely expensive
insanely crowded
excessive traffic

like sure it has good arts and food and lots to do but I dont think that makes it worth putting up with the bullshit

I just looked at two random semi nice apartments there and each one bedroom was like...$1800/month. Damn.

Nice part of here in Houston Im paying $1300 for a 1 bedroom. Maybe Cali is more expensive than I thought haha

Cali seems like a lame place actually, aside from San Diego. New York City seems way cooler.

is it really that crowded? I live in a major city now, and was just in that part of Cali. Seemed nice and open to me. I know San Francisco is packed, but didnt think population density was all that high.

Nah I like it. LA is great to visit. Wouldnt wanna live there. Never been to San Diego but I heard its not as crowded there.

North California has a lot of homeless, but I guess the whole state does really...

I'm in Arizona and I am actually thinking about moving to Sacramento when my seasonal political job ends in November. I had grandparents in Southern California that would let me live with them for a few months while I look for a place/job

NorCal is really pretty I've always wanted to explore out there

I think hes being funny. Stockton is not nice. Just be prepared to pay for the premium of living in California. Much more expensive. Depends on what you want to do in free time. But if the beach is a main thing dont move to Sac. Stick to the Bay, LA, or SD. Bay is also driving distance to Tahoe, but LA is driving and cheaper flights to Vegas. SD is easy access to Mexico.

congrats on being the first person in history to utter this sentence

central valley is your best bet for relative affordability while still being good location wise-having proximity to both the bay AND the mountains which is a definite plus. will get hot in summers, but a dry heat if that's fine with you. earthquakes are not something that people actively worry about, it's very uncommon that an earthquake actually affects anything

Ah. I really dont know the dynamics of whats nice vs not nice in Cali lol. Nah the beach is a nice visit every once in a while, but not my main thing. I love the mountains/lakes/skiing north California is close to.

Im so used to driving large amounts around Texas. A 4 hour drive from Houston to Dallas is nothing to me. The amount of stuff 4 hours from the Bay Area is incredible and mind blowing to me. Could constantly take weekend trips and explore most of Cali/the west coast.

Yeah that sounds awesome. Has that area of California been at risk of wildfires?

I drove through both Modesto and Stockton I think last week, on my way from Yosemite. Neither really seemed awful or super run down in my eyes
