I don't have kids yet, but I definitely feel for my co-workers.

If only we took the virus seriously in March and would be able to have students in classrooms.

Wow some nurses are parents?

I don't think anyone is saying that distance learning is just a free roll. It will suck for many people, but we're in a pandemic and lots of people dying would suck more.

Make an argument for why people actually won't be dying if we open schools, not an appeal to emotion that "Well some nurses will not be able to work, so it's actually preferable if more people get sick and fill up the hospital that way".

Bingo. I know there are reports saying kids can safely go to school during this, so it's still worth looking into, but unless that's a certainty then we need to make sacrifices. It sucks, but that's what needs to be done. This is a bad situation, there isn't a good option. What we need to do is combat the virus now and maybe come September or October we could have schools open up.

I wonder the same.

Normally, in summer, if the children are too young to be by themselves, there are camps, day camps, babysitters, etc. Right now, though, that does not exist for the most part.

Im a teacher and I think this whole situation is awful and scary. I 100% want to support people like those nurses and be in the classroom with the kids. But I understand that for everyones safety, that simply cant happen. But Im thinking if theres a potential alternative, like maybe keeping the kids in a school auditorium and small groups of them take turns getting exercise outdoors, watching a movie, or even just completing their distance learning assignments on a laptop.

Im worried about whats gonna happen in the next few months, when financial instability turns to evictions, etc.
