On a Windows 7 setup it was as easy as just popping the disc in, setting the partitions, and installing

on my new machine I ended up screwing around too much with the Windows bootloader accidentally disabling it and needing to create a rescue USB whoops

turns out I actually had to go into BIOS after messing with bcdedit and manually set it to boot with GRUB >_>

It's really curious that Windows has a setting to choose your default operating system, but only lists itself

it really do be like that sometimes

the answer was a lot simpler than I made it out to be

also it doesn't help that both the Windows Bootloader and GRUB were listed as "Windows 10" in the BIOS so I had to rename it >_>

well I'm a genius

spent hours trying to figure out how to get my hybrid Nvidia card working on this without it crashing whenever I tried to boot into my desktop environment

the solution was to install the nvidia package
