With kingdom hearts 3 available on game pass I do wanna take advantage and play. I was just gonna watch the YouTube catchup vid and jump right in but I see the 1.5 remix thing is also available. I remember playing the first game and watching a vid will help remind me of the story. Can I just watch that and play the remix and then watch a recap for 2 and be all caught up or is this harder than Im thinking.

Watched a video or two to try to catch up on the story a few months ago before playing KH3

It didn't help. If you really want to play KH3, just play it for the reasons you want to play it (probably to experience the levels and the gameplay). Watch some videos but you likely still won't know wtf is going on. I sure didn't

KH1 > COM > KH2 > Days > BBS > 3D > 0.2 > 3

No need to watch the Coded movie, and 0.2 is barely necessary from a story standpoint.

1, 2, BBS, and DDD will be enough. There's stuff you'll be missing out on for sure if you don't play or watch, but for the main plot that should be fine

You can buy the story so far bundle on PS4/and I think XOne, its basically every single game up until KH3

dont bother the story of KH is pure nonsense and it retcons its self all the time so even if you get up todate it will just be retconed later

This is for the best. The gameplay is the only decent thing about KH3 besides the graphics. The story is a mess, even to the diehard fans, and the less you know about it, the better.

And even if you did play all the games on the list posted above, you'd still have to watch the Back Cover movie and catch up on the Unchained X smartphone game on top of that, since they both contain info needed to fully understand KH3's plot. It's a waste of time. If you haven't already been invested in the series beforehand, trying to catch up now is just a draining chore that would ultimately end in almost zero payoff since KH3's story is so shitty.
