DOOM 2016 vs DOOM Eternal

I enjoyed Eternal a lot more, though it has a lot of flaws.

There is a lot to criticize. Possibly even moreso than the first game.

However, I still find the sequel to be way more amazing because of all the new mechanics and the fact that the game forces you to utilize them all. When you're concentrating really hard, using whatever sparse tools you have to defeat a mob of enemies, you hardly have time to think about "Yeah BUT the platforming between enemy mobs is kind of intrusive." (BTW, I actually quite enjoyed the platforming. Hate me if you want.)

The biggest issue I heard about Eternal is that it more or less forces you to play like the devs intended like having to use certain weapons on certain enemies forcing you to cycle through your entire arsenal.

I disagree. I played on UV difficulty, and felt like there were always weapons that were "niche" for given situations, yet I always had a choice as for which of those niche weapons I wanted to use during any of those situations. It helped that those situations were pretty balanced. So I found myself using the AR thing as often as I used the shotty, and as often as I used the RL. Etc.

I actually found myself using the same weapons over and over WAY more often in the first game. I think the ammo shortage in the sequel contributed to this. Especially on higher difficulties.

Eternal fixes a lot of issues that 2016 had, like being able to go back at the end of a level to get the collectables you missed.

That's basically what he means. In 2016 you could super shotgun the whole way through if you wanted. My brother didn't even touch the AR until the Switch added gyro aim because he kept aim assist off lol. People say (haven't played it) Eternal forces you to use more weapons by fitting them into "niches" and having more ammo scarcity. But idk if that's true myself.

K, but isn't all of that a good thing?

To be clear this is a criticism levied by people who don't want to be forced to used the whole arsenal. I myself barely used the Rocket Launcher until my third (complete) playthrough of 2016.

Depends. I don't really like using the rail gun in 2016. Would I be upset if I was forced to take it out all the time? Idk, but some people did mind having to use weapons they didn't like as much.

Edit: tbh that's a lie, I love the rail gun. But you get the point.
