His interest throughout the coronavirus shitshow has been to bury it so it doesn't hurt his reelection. He's done some grifting here and there, but his main concern is a pandemic killing his polling.
He's an idiot, because he would've been fine if he had done literally anything to combat it rather than hide it for months then call it a hoax when it inevitably became public knowledge. By trying to ignore it he's done exactly what he was so desperate to avoid. And he's still only making it worse.
