As much as it takes without going into financial ruin, provided it's able to live a happy life after the fact. If it survives but is suffering the rest of it's life, I will just do the humane thing.

I could do alot if it guaranteed a long life. But a 10k+ surgery/treatment I'd imagine his quality of life would just be suffering for a long time and it wouldnt be the right thing to do.

500$ easily though the only times i couldn't do anything was for my cat. she could've gotten the fluid removed from her abdomen but i would've been selfish if i kept her alive she was very miserable (died due to abdominal cancer).

did pay 400$ for an aural hematoma for my current dog (took 1 surefire treatment, 1 failed one) to solve the issue. could've lived with the cauliflower ear problem (looks aren't everything) health/happiness is highly important.

I spent over $500 on one of my cats.

She got scratched or whacked by something across the eye and it made her blind in the eye. Eventually it got infected or something and they had to remove the eye.

But I don't think I'd go much over $1000 unless it was a recurring issue or a total over time.

It'd also depend on the age of the animal in question.

I might be apt to spend a few grand on like a pet that is 3 years old but my cat was almost 15 at the time so she was on the other side of her age range anyways

This. And I'd stay in the room while they get injected since I read somewhere that animals freak out when their owner leaves and they are about to be put to sleep.

Humane, and flat out the responsible thing to do. You take ownership of a literal life, you don't bullshit your way. I get it, something like a hamster is not a dog, let alone kid. The limited intelligence and comprehension it has, it still has a conscious. If you voluntarily quit on it out of lack of will, you just destroyed some thing's reality.

That goes into why I personally don't have a dog. I'm not scared of the idea, I wouldn't cower if one ended up in my hands by circumstance, but I know I'm not in the best position for it. A lot of people are guilty of having pets and kids for their own sakes, not the sake of the pet or kid - regardless of how well they treat it.

Depends on a lot of factors tbh. Which pet is relevant because one is much older than the other two. Quality of life is also really relevant.

But I would likely spend a lot. I love them dearly.

It's strictly situational. I don't even really want to think about it, but if they will life a normal life going forward, the price is worth it. If they will be restricted, disabled, handicapped, and live on a life I wouldn't want to live myself, i'd seriously consider other options.

My family has, in the past, spent $13,000 on our dog after she got sick from an illness nobody seemed to understand. She pulled through and lived a few more years. Easily worth it.

That was 12 years ago. We've had pet insurance on our current dog since we got him. Saved us thousands on leg surgery and such.

The bills will $3200? Or the insurance paid out $3200 (or more) , the bills were cheaper and you kept the rest additional?

this is gonna sound really corny but when i started living by myself i made a promise that if i don't do anything else, i would do everything i could to give my cat a happy home. i'd do literally anything i could monetarily afford, which would be between like 1-5k probably.

Bills I think were around $3400-$3600. Our insurance covered a total of $3200 across the two claims
