I was the reverse. I was riding high from 2 and wasn't seeing it in my young age. Played it again a decade later and I'm like... "why am I bored?"

dkc3 follows a really tough act. it probably doesn't help that they decided to retain koins but reduce them into easy-to-find, slight puzzle enemies. in 2, it felt like the levels were more or less designed to hide them.
