10. Chips and salsa
Keep 'em coming! House-made salsa and fresh chips straight from the deep fryer may be so cheap they're often complementary, but they're oh so satisfying. 9. Baked beans Made with the flavor of sweet bbq sauce, and served hot and fresh. A favorite at barbecues for their great pairing with a variety of grilled meats. 8. Macaroni and cheese As long as it's not out of a blue box, this is deliciously cheesy and tender and goes great with pretty much anything. 7. Bread and butter I could live by this alone. If you want me to take your steakhouse seriously, you better have some fresh baked and ready for the table. 6. Fried rice There's something about the combination of carbs, soy sauce and a variety of mix-ins that just makes this dish positively irresistable. 5. Onion rings A good onion ring is king, but poor consistency from kitchen to kitchen knocks them down a few spots. Still, even your standard ring is sure to please. 4. Cup of soup/gumbo/chowder Every sandwich connoisseur can back me up: this is definitely a side dish. From broccoli and cheese to loaded baked potato, even a tasty vegetable soup, soups are sure to please on the side just as well as as a main dish. 3. French fries Is there a more iconic side dish? One of the more versatile dishes on my list, fries can be served up as thin shoestrings, or fat steak fries and with virtually any toppings you can come up with. 2. Fried okra You gotta be raised on it to appreciate it. Nobody makes it like momma. These breaded bits of okra served warm and crispy just feel and taste like home. 1. Tater Tots The king of crispy, with a nice volume of potato inside.
