In your opinion? Assume two terms is 8 years

How many terms?

let me guess, the 2 votes for "not enough for president" are both from Trumpers who wish Trump could be more like Putin who just keeps extending his reign

I'm one of the votes. I think term limits are largely anti-democratic and don't serve the purpose people think they will.

The cap incentivizes presidents to get things done by getting legislation passed, because otherwise the changes are pointless. Which is a good thing.

On one hand, FDR is one of the best presidents we've had.

On the other, I don't want to see America with a Putin-type regime.

I do wonder if it would curtail this pendulum-swing phenomenon if we had a more democratic system.

Yeah but it has seemingly incentivized a do-nothing congress (see, Mitch McConnell)

i think everything should be 12 years.

President: 3 Terms of 4 years
Congress: 2 Terms of 6 years or 6 Terms of 2 years (or a combination, but the house and senate count on the same clock)
Supreme Court: 1 Term of 12 years

these apply to the states as well, but with a separate clock than the federal equivalent.

so, it's still possible to be a political lifer, but no more 17 term representatives. that's gross. you're doing it wrong.

I think telling a 30 year old that if they run for congress, their career will be done at age 42 would result in them using their time to position themselves for a cushy gig in the private sector.

their federal Congressional career. they're still welcome to run for president, governor or state legislature.

edit: ooooh, i get what you're saying. hmmm... yeah, maybe. too bad we're apparently completely incapable of weeding out corruption. (not sarcasm. we fucking suck at this)
