Yes, theres a particular (and limited) set of gamecube controllers that have a specific manufacturing error with the joystick that happens to make a certain "advanced technique" in Melee trivially easy to do and at one point a "top 5" player dropped out of a tournament because he couldnt get one of those controllers to use
