With the information of the top ring of smashers coming out as pedos i see a lot of smash fans or just people who don't watch fighting games blaming the FGC.

There's a reason the FGC always distances itself from the smash fanbase and it's not always because of the smell. 90% of these predators coming out have been smash players and Mr Wizard.

and I thought weird DMs from a mentally awkward developer was the worst thing to come out of this year. I hope the victim's lawyer up because its disgusting so many top profile players would do this.

It's not a traditional fighting game given the control scheme and other features, but yes, it's just as competitive and a legitimate fighter as any other game played within the FGC.

Both are very similar communities. I wouldn't be surprised if this kind of thing went down in competitive gaming circles in general.

Smash fanbase has always been known to be rabid and awful even they know it too. No one wants to group with people they know won't try different things, smash players only play smash (unless your the .5% like Leffen) the other communities always mingle with each other Tekken,SF,Anime,ect.

I'm not saying the FGC is clean there are some people who I'm pretty sure have skeletons like UltraDavid, and Viscant. But when the worst thing to come out of non-smash communities at least this year is The Skullgirls developer being extremely awkward and weird in DMs its pretty telling.

Smash has always been a game that attracts people of young audiences more than any other game due to being hugely popular and being from Nintendo, it's a fact. There is a reason that most of these cases have been pedophilia

This isn't the first time smashers have had problems with underage kids

No denying that smash ultimate is the complete package. Heck a lot of people respect Sakurai even the ones that absolutely hate smash, he is an extremely hard working developer.

Also he plays KOF so that's automatically +100 respect

As a member of the Melee community from 2008-2013, and still follows it (and still plays), yeah, we deserve all the shit we've gotten and are getting. >_>

Though as for Smash, I don't know why they're so hard up desperate to be part of a community that has made it clear time & time again, they openly despise them. I truly can't comprehend the mentality that makes you kiss the ass of someone who so openly despises you.

But gamers shut themselves off the rest of the world so much worse and the thing about gamers is that gaming culture is so closely intertwined with internet culture. And the internet is infested with trolls and idiots who seclude themselves in their own little echo chambers, which just perpetuate and further entrench their beliefs due to confirmation bias. That's why it pervades gaming culture so much.

This is true, but I think the competitive gaming scenes are probably not going to be as affected by this by virtue of the fact that their public gatherings are frequent enough that they're not the ones who are super shut off from society. The big time gaming shut ins who just troll on reddit all day are probably not overlapping too heavily with the people who travel to big get togethers on a regular basis.
