So 2 guys with sniper rifle and 2 guys with assault rilfes. No shotgun, no rocket launchers.

Each person carry as much ammo as they can carry to enter through a portal. No crates or anything, but all they can carry on backpack and ammo pouches.

Would they be able to win the battle without the help of the ghosts?

Would the orcs just send the nazguls and fell beasts to grab them and drop them to their deaths? Would they slingshot a giant rock into the spot the shooters are camping?

Would nozzle fire hider significantly help them? Would stationing too far from the enemies make themwaste ammo or weaken bullet penetration?

What do you guys think?

4 men ? Fuck no. Those conditions don't even give em enough bullets for the job even if they have 100% accuracy with a 100% kill rate.

There were hundreds of thousands of orcs. Bare minimum several thousand modern soldiers needed. Probably many more with those ammo/gear restrictions.

Plus Nazgul alone would stop em. Even if you kill the fell beasts...witch king solos.

Well I would assume they'd station on the walls. And as they climb up the ladders they could kill multiple with single shots.

And snipers could land headshots on the trolls pushing the siege towers.

If it took one bullet per orc, and they were perfectly accurate, they would need about 60,000 rounds.

That's over 2500 pounds of ammunition.

So no, I don't think they could.

It would probably require a unit of brigade size at the very least.

Yes 4 men to a protect a several thousand foot (minimum) long wall agaibst several hundred thousand armored attackers with goddman trolls seems soooooo doable. It took a point blank headshot from Legolas between the eyes to kill an unarmored troll.

Armored trolls might not bite it from 1 headshot.

I think three to four hundred could pull it off if they were a good shot. They could carry enough ammunition at least.

Well the men still have aragorn, legolas etc.

Take out the elephants with snipers, would rohan have done better?

Shit I have forgotten how many orcs there were. How many squads do you guys think will be needed to kill these guys with swords and bow and arrow tho?

No chance in hell. Way too outnumbered. And if you're including the Nazgul they bring incredible scouting potential to the table for the orcs to know what's going on, and the Witch King can basically shut them down entirely with his ability to amplify fear and dread until they can't fight

The more I think about this the more unsatisfying it is that the men needed the help of the plot devicey ghosts to help instant win them the battle.

You didn't really make it clear they were there in addition to normal defenses.

Still the men make almost no difference. Maaaybe the gates fall a few minutes later. If the guys are stationed near it and the snipers are insanely good.

Nazgul probably notice how effective the weapons are and fly in to kill em though or the orcs aim with catapults at em.

You need at least a few hundred to make an appreciable impact on the battle(I.E the gates/walls falling hours or more later or better and thus a lot more attrition against the orc forces) of honestly and probably a thousand+ to win without ghosts. Perhaps more as the ghosts also stopped a bunch of reinforcements from coming in

yes, its actually a major flaw in the movie. it is such a cheap cop out and takes value from any sacrifice on the part of faramir, the men of gondor, and the rohirrim, and imo paints the rest of the movie in a kind of satirical light and melodramatic light.

Maybe 4 of them with Mk 19s and like 60,000 rounds of ammo, each perched atop the turrets in Minas Tirith.

Even then it'd be extremely unlikely and they'd have to be getting multi kills every shot

They don't in the books

Then again, this *is* the story where the good guys are incapable of ever actually defeating the bad guy under their own power, but win anyway because a dude trips
