Were people seriously upset over that ending?

Doomguy kills demons all the way to the end boss --> Doomguy saves Humanity --> 2 min long summary of why Doomguy has much more work to do and will keep doing his job forever --> The End; Next Game

Same shit as every Doom game and that's fine. Did idiots want a dragged out af Naughty Dog conclusion or something?

I thought it was just a little bit sudden and didn't set much anything up like the first game did. Combine that with the way they took themselves a bit too seriously in the lore and what not and I can get why people weren't thrilled with it.

It was a serviceable ending

Have you done either of the Master Levels yet TC? They're pretty fun, but damn do I wish the whole campaign was ready.

The Khan Makyr lore or Doomguy lore? I was chuckling at how fucking badass god-like they made Doomguy appear this time. That and the Argent soul harvesting stuff was soooo out there I don't think it was going for grittiness at all.

As far as the ending is concerned, I think that's supposed to lead up to the big DLC campaign.

In a world where sometimes all we get is "here's a thing for the next game", I respect Eternal for not going that route like 2016 did.

And despite all the attention to lore in Eternal, when the final thing to do is blow up the big bad, there's not really much need for a denouement.

I finished one of them but Cultist Base was too overwhelming. It'll probably be a walk in the park now after all upgrades and skill-building up to the Icon of Sin boss but I agree, they are fucking incredible slaughtering good times
