acter?

I can't say I've ever even remotely cared about if a VAs race matched the race of the character they're voicing. If it sounds good then its whatever to me.

What about games like Mass Effect where you can be any race you want? Should BioWare be made to hire a white VA, a black VA, an asian VA, a hispanic VA, etc just for... whatever you call this? wokeness?

Its one of the dumbest things in a while. Its a problem nobody had amplified by people thinking that Twitter represents more than a tiny minority of mostly stupid opinions.

It solves literally no problems and may even create issues down the line.

People only care when its a white person voicing a black character. If its anyone else people are indifferent, and if its a black guy voicing a white character then its considered equality or some such nonsense.

It should be pointed out though that for all the accusations of racism thrown out about gamers, gamers tend to not really care if black guys voice white characters. Aside from maybe a few dipshits, its mostly non-gamers who are judging people based on the color of their skin.

When the new God of War was announced a few years ago people were pissed the voice actor would be Christoper Judge. Not because he's a black guy, but because they were replacing the OTHER black guy who had voiced him from the start of the franchise.

See, I had no idea that Kratos was voiced by a black guy. Because it doesn't matter. the voice acting was so good that it transcended race and became its own character.

I get the argument for minority representation in voice acting roles, but at the same time a role is a role and I don't think a white person seriously portraying a black character's voice is remotely offensive.

And I don't mean to bring a slippery slipe argument in here, but by the same extension would it be inappropriate for a Chinese VA to portray a Korean character, or a Pakistani actor portraying an Indian character, or a Mexican actor portraying a Colombian character, or a Danish actor portraying a Belgian character?

Irregardless, for all intensive purposes, I could care less.

My take is that there SHOULD BE consideration for a race of a character be played the same race of actor, but if there is a choice between a good actor who does not 'fit' the race, and a bad actor who does 'fit' the race, it should be the better actor. If a studio puts out a call and gets 3 black actors for a black role and 10 white actors, and none of the black actors feel right, then it should go to whomever it feels best.

One of the best examples I can think of is James Earl Jones as Darth Vader - his voice was suited for the character despite not being the same race as the character (to be fair, the only reason it was really 'discovered' was in Episode 6 when his helmet was removed though).
