I can't believe any of the numbers I see anymore.

First they said "Oh shit the number of infections is gonna be crazy huge!!!" Then it never got that big and they said "We overestimated by a little bit" and now it's back to "OMG Everybody's gonna die"

I've still yet to meet even 1 single person who's tested positive for it.

So be it then. If people are going to be stupid, we have to respond. At least in prison, they can be contained for at least two weeks. This is a matter of public safety.

You're very lucky. My coworker's still on blood thinners after his discharge, and my mother just tested positive from all the way in rural Alabama.

Not a sure bet either. Herd immunity would apply when enough people die off and the survivors have strong enough antibodies. Usually it's in reference to vaccines providing enough resistance to infection, but we're not at that point yet.

I live near Seattle which is apparently the epicenter for the whole thing but none of my friends or coworkers has gotten it. My Mom works as a nurse and she said the most Covid patients they've had was like 2 or 3 at the same time. Certainly not "FLOODS OF INFECTED WE NEED MORE BEDS!" like I see on the news.

There are various numbers for various scenarios. The worst case scenario may have been avoided, and things were improving for a time, but your country did not shut down well enough or long enough in most states and basic safety measures have become political issues. People are stupid and selfish and now the numbers are exploding again.
