People in Japan wear masks whenever they are sick and have for decades. They have the longest life expectancy in the world and have among the lowest death rates from this disease. There is a very strong anti-science/anti-intellectualism element to American culture and no amount of facts or reason will convince people who are involved in it.

That is pretty much the only downside, really. I've seen more people wearing masks improperly and getting closer than needed than those wearing masks properly AND still keeping distance.

If people have trouble breathing with masks on, I'd suggest ones that are loose at the bottom. They're probably not as effective but they're still better than nothing.
