why blame the ep8 writer if the ep9 script was bad anyway?
I'm putting the blame on the Disney execs, and partially JJ. If you're bringing him in to course correct, why would you give him less time than even episode 7? And tbh, JJ probably should have known better and turned them down. Maybe they offered a very fat paycheck, but he had to know this would be a bit of a disaster. Rian did what he was obligated to do: make a single competent movie with room for a sequel.

Like, maybe JJ would have made a lot of the same bad story directions and did his best to ignore 8 anyway, but the time table screwed the whole thing from the start.

I personally like Episode 8, if you're wondering.

8 wasn't very good but it wasn't a quarter as bad as the Internet wants it to be.

Agreed its main problem is just poor story and character choices over all I think it was better directed and produced than 7 and 9 especially. I feel the majority feel the same now in retrospect.

Honestly, I wish RJ had control of the whole trilogy sometimes. I feel like he would have done a much smaller story in the SW universe, which I think would have been the appropriate follow up to the OT.

Bob Iger for listening to George Lucas in getting Kathleen Kennedy, who turned around and fucked over George. Then her for not working with JJ Abrams to stay for all three and instead getting in a novice like RJ, and then begging JJ to return.

I think both the poll and the posts suggest that there were many interrelated factors which led to this movie. Even though it's bad, I enjoyed it well enough as a popcorn flick and tbh I'm not even really made about it. It didn't really do anything to the PT and OT eras, if that makes sense, so I can still enjoy those just as much.

Yes so we can get an even worse trilogy then the one we actually got, I can just imagine how much more hate the ST would get if it was Ruin Jackass for all 3.

Each film in the ST disregards the one that came before it.

Since this is about IX specifically, I blame JJ. He still could've built on a few things that were left over from TLJ; at least this trilogy would've had *some* consistency had he done so. Instead, IX just ignores pretty much everything that occurred in TLJ, making the whole movie reek of desperation to ignore TLJ: Luke's whole "heroic act" that's supposed to make him an inspiration and a legend is completely forgotten about nor is it even mentioned by anyone, the whole X-Wing being submerged and unable to fly (even stating in some picture book that one of the wing's was used as Luke's hut door) is completely retconned, meaning that Luke could've faced down Kylo Ren in person on Crait this whole time, making his force projection twist completely and utterly pointless, and Kylo Ren flip flopping his motivations once again.

But it's okay, here's Wedge randomly firing one of the Falcon's cannons for a couple of seconds! JJ didn't want to make Kylo the main bad guy even though he's now the supreme leader and Palpatine's replacement was killed off unceremoniously in the last movie, but that's fine because Palpatine is back from out of the blue without any clues nor buildup in the previous movies! Don't you love crammed in fan service?!

Nor did RJ. He was setting up a redemption arc that JJ shat all over

Injecting a second director with a totally different vision about Star Wars for episode 8 really fucked the whole thing up. A whole trilogy of Rain Johnson deconstructing Star Wars would've been interesting and fine, but putting it in between two movies that are nostalgic circle jerks sunk the whole endeavor. JJ probably should've just done all 3 himself.

I feel like it was a poor idea to try and just cobble it together with different directors.

I loved Ep 8, but it was definitely very different from other SW movies and that is the direct result of Kathleen Kennedy not reigning in the project to be as cohesive as it could.

That being said, fans thinking SW was ever well written is also kinda strange.

It's my fault. I'm sorry, y'all.
You're forgiven, but don't do it again. Now, go film The Dark Knight Re-Rises: Bane of Wayne [MKUSR1J]. ;P

Both Rian and JJ for not coordinating their stories whatsoever.
This was Kennedy's responsibility. It didn't help that she first found *then* auditioned each SW D/ST director.
