In your opinion?

I gotta go with the original.

FF7R has it beat on graphics and possibly music but in terms of story, gameplay, atmosphere, pacing, tone, immersion. FF7 smashes it

FF7R didn't even let you ride chocobos and that's a staple.

FF7R technically isn't even finished yet

Right now I prefer the original but once I have the fully fleshed out remake I might prefer that.

Actually yeah I'll agree with this. I loved FF7R more than the portion of FF7 it covered.

They released FF7R as a complete game

The next one is a sequel.

Tough to say. I really, really hated the ending to FF7R, but I did like how they fleshed out Midgar. If they continue with the alternate universe garbage, then I have no doubts that the original will end up being better overall.

there was definitely too much padding for the short runtime just to keep things taking place in midgar.

something is wrong when both games can be finished around the same time story-wise.

Bruh, idk about you but I'm excited for my Zack saving Aerith from Sephiroth and banging her fan fiction to finally come true.

FF7R didn't do much for me. But I have no idea how much of that was the games fault.

FFVII is overrated.

Not even a top 5 JRPG on the PSX.

As a whole, the original is still better.

...but I will say, the Remake's battle system has a level of depth that I enjoyed more than the classic system. Having an ATB meter AND real-time combat with different combat styles is kind of brilliant, and adds a level of strategy and preparation that's absent from the original.

FF doesn't get enough credit for actually trying to innovate. People seem to prefer to play the same exact system for 20 years.

I didn't say DQ, you just thought it.

Problem is when Square innovates their FF battle system the result is usually awful, and when it's not it's set up to fail either way. 10-2 was in a dum girlie game about dressup so nobody remembers it and I genuinely think that in any other game 13's battle system would be well-liked, but when literally everything about a game takes agency away from the player, a battle system seemingly doing the same, and it being literally all the game consists of, was a poor choice.

It's good, but unfortunately leveling the monsters is so grindy the game gives you little reason to experiment with them and just stick with your few high level ones.

7, obviously, it's a complete game. But I enjoyed what they did with FF7R, i wish it was done to a complete game so it didn't need as much fluff. But ignoring the fluff, Midgar is much more fun in R than 7. I also don't hate the idea that R is pushing where the original was one path and the remake is a new path that will be different. I'd obvously prefer just take 7, making it pretty, fixing bugs/glitches, and throwing in some more end game content if i had my way.
