Seems weird how US shows will usually have a British guy or someone from a foreign country to go "silly Americans" and dog all over the US

It might be that American shows actually keep making new episodes. They have to come up with a lot of ideas so lots of different things happen. British shows have like 6 episodes in a season that comes out once every 3 years for 3 seasons. And that's a long running british show.

but i think its also to do with selling the show internationally since it helps having relatable characters from other places

Only Fools and Horses had a feature length episode in Florida ('Miami Twice'), with the 'limeys' being insulted constantly.

Red Dwarf sort of did this.

Captain Hollister was American and somewhat competent among British idiots.

Then the actor got really fat so they turned him into a fat useless chief wiggum joke later on.

League of Extraordinary Gentlemen had the American who occasionally poked fun at the way they did things. That's a movie, though.

We make fun of ourselves already, so don't really need others to do it.

He was never skinny but he went from taking up 1 seat on the bus to taking 2

I think this is a factor too.

Half of British humor is self-deprecating.

If we include Irish then the last episode of Father Ted is a sane American among insane Irishmen although he's too polite to react to how idiotic they all are.

I guess we can also include Kryten, who is supposed to be a Canadian robot or something.
Definitely so for Cat.

For the brits in this thread, your fake american accents are bad, the ones in most movies are bad

Americans are way too charitable about it

There's a rumor that that when they made the US version of Red Dwarf they wanted Robert Llewellyn (the only British guy they kept) on the project because they thought he actually was Canadian and Americans accept him lol.

Robert Llewellyn says he doesn't believe this though.
