Viggo Mortensen's character teaches Mahershala Ali's character how to eat fried chicken? Lmao probably important to note that this is 'based off a true story', and Don Shirley's family has had to confirm that he in fact knew how to eat fried chicken his whole life. This is probably the least problematic part of the movie (somehow) but still the most wtflol part imo.

Oscar award winning movie right here:

I honestly know nothing about this movie, the real life people, story, or anything.

I just came in to say that the black dude in this scene comes off as like the flagship logical yet inhuman character in every Star Trek series. Spock, Data, Odo, Seven, T'pol. It's kinda weird.

The point was that Ali was upscale and high end, that he never ate fried chicken.

Every time I hear about this movie I think of the far superior film Green Room instead

The movie is basically a white savior movie through and through. He's robotic because they didn't know how to write a "gay black man who's lost his roots" or whatever they were going for. Instead they just made this dumb shit up. Bunch of shit like Viggo Mortensen helps Ali to get back to his black roots while Ali helps Mortensen to get along with his wife lmao

im sure it's a solid movie in its own right if you don't watch it through woke "white savior movie" lens but it looks like a very cliched 90s to early 2000s style white guy and black guy buddy movie and i dont see myself ever willingly watching it lol. And watching it through woke lens would probably lead to some major laughs cuz it was prolly made by ppl who don't hang out with black ppl very often

The black guy mostly saved the white guy, not the other way around. Its a solid 7/10 movie but it didnt deserve an Oscar

Wtf are you talking about? Viggo's character quite literally saves Don Shirley like 6 different times throughout the movie and Shirley doesn't save him once outside of the wife shit if that counts lol

like idk how to describe it. an italian pushing a black dude to try fried chicken is just bizarre. not sure if racist or just a bad idea with good intentions since it seems to be making both characters endearing? idk

tfw this won BP but not Mulholland Drive

The funniest part about the Oscar shit is that Black Panther is 100% a better movie and would have deserved it more than this steaming pile of shit.

Roma should have won tho.
