Cillian Murphy was amazing. How was he not Oscar nominated?

*Looks up*

Yeah, he should have been.

Pete Postelwaite made me sad :(

Movie was okay, I guess.

Yeah, sort of. I don't think it was confusing, but it was kind of up its own ass.

A pretty spectacle for sure.

I actually saw it in theaters. Cinemas opened up here a few weeks ago and they're having trouble filling slots, so this one is running a bunch of old Nolan movies and I'd never seen this one and thought sure why not.

Big IMAX cinema with like 600 seats. Me and two other random people sitting a row away.

It was great.

I'd say obviously, but my friend I talked to afterwards said that the top wobbles a bit before it cut to black, which I must have missed, so I guess it's "unknown". I'd still say he obviously was. Ending was stupidly happy otherwise.

i mean i look forward to tenet but his pretentiousness is probably gonna shine through like "i created such a fucking masterpiece and don't i fucking know it" type attitude that'll permeate throughout the movie.

No, but he can be good. Prestige is a masterpiece, IMO.

And while I had some issues with Inception, it certainly wasn't near as far up its own ass as Interstellar.

Also, I want to say that the use of La vie en rose in the movie was immersion breaking, but I guess technically it just kicked me into another layer of understanding. Woooooooooooooooah!

I watched it like... a long time ago. Literally the only thing I remember is that he is great, Rachel McAdams is in it I think, and he gets stabbed in the throat with a pen.

That's because way more people than you think don't pay attention to like 30% of movie dialogue.

I actually had an issue with the dialogue because I wasn't aware it was a showing without subtitles and English isn't my first language.

I got into the rhyhm of it after the first 15 minutes or so, though. I still dont understand what Ken Watanabe's character's name was.

Also, holy shit his old man make-up was comical.

I enjoyed it a lot for what it was. It's a lot like a video game, the dream rules are basically game mechanics and the enjoyment of the movie comes from watching it use those mechanics in an interesting way (e.g. the tumbling van causing the rotating hallway, the differences in passage of time between dream levels, etc). I also thought it was a really well-written screenplay from a structural standpoint (even if the dialogue is unsophisticated), it clearly establishes its rules and ratchets up tension really well in the second half.

Any movie that has to state its rules over and over again isn't well written. That was Nolan trying to overcomplicate something that didn't need to be that complicated. Took me 3 or 4 tries to watch it and tried to re-watch but was annoyed. Cool visuals. I don't get the love.

Clarity is the most important thing for effective drama/suspense. You have to know the stakes and rules of the world at every single step in order for any story to be effective. Nolan probably did go overboard given that it was a big budget movie that had to work effectively for the masses, but in an alternate universe there's a version of this movie that's more "artsy" and vague that is also a lot less appealing. IMO the appeal of the movie is as an almost exclusively left-brain experience: you learn the rules like you'd learn game mechanics and then watch the movie use those rules in interesting ways.

I loved Inception, it was very well put together despite how intricate the story was, while also being a great action spectacle.

The correct answer is it doesn't matter, Cobb has accepted that reality and stopped caring whether he is dreaming or not, which is why he just walked away to join his kids rather than look at the top.

But still the top was definitely wobbling, that was not a dream

I do fine with English, but watching movies without subtitles, even if it's just English subtitles, can be hard to pay attention for meaning while keeping an eye on the visual happening.

it's always hilarious to me how buttflustered some people get when they hear that someone enjoyed Inception or thought it was anything but entirely straightforward and simple
Imo how confused people are at Inception is a litmus test for how closely people pay attention to movies. Watching movies is a very casual experience for many, so it's not surprising plenty of viewers don't hang on to every word and scene.

Now some people's brains may just be wired in a way that they won't get it even with a careful viewing, but I think that's the minority.
