Instead of learning from America's past racial intolerances, the AA settlers thought of themselves as racially and culturally superior to the native blacks, stole their shit and land and even denied them of citizenship in their own land till a hundred years later. They treated the natives the way American whites had treated them: as inferiors. The natives could not vote and could not speak unless spoken to.
