But here's the thing - they don't deserve forgiveness. Don't fall for it.

They enabled this dangerous moron for three years. They can't just now come out and say they never realized how "non-conservative" he is or how he "doesn't fit the values of the GOP."

They've already set up several pro-Biden PACs (Right Side PAC, Republican Voters Against Trump and The Lincoln Project), but they've only now started to get public endorsements (notably - George W Bush and Mitt Romney.)

The GOP tolerated and actively promoted Trump's hate and misinformation-fueled idiocy for three years. They deserve no forgiveness. Their enabling and normalizing of fake news alone is reprehensible and the antithesis of a functioning democracy.

You can already see it leaking over onto more right-wing circles as well. FOX is testing the waters with "is Biden actually more conservative than Trump?" snippets.

It's obvious what they're gearing up for.

I've been saying, Republicans (not Trump supporters) should be hoping he loses in November. If Biden is elected, the GOP will blame all the fallout for Trump's bad decisions on him and 2022 will possibly see a House flip.

However, if Trump is reelected, we could see a Senate supermajority for Dems in 22 after 2 more years of this buffoonery
GOP in general has been appealing to a (seemingly) smaller and smaller group of people.

Unless the GOP finds a bunch of Romney-esque moderate candidates, idk how they wash the stain of Trump off the party within the next 6-8 years.

I mean, of course they are. They backed him for being in power and being afraid to lose their power. Once he's out of fashion, he'll be trashed.

We'll see some ardent supporters here claiming that they "never really liked him".

Apparently this was legitimately discussed behind closed doors back in February. If they had only known COVID-19 would bring out the absolute worst of Trump and his misinformation-pushing drones.

Yeah, they're only mad at him because he helps expose how rotten Republicans are. Sadly, even some people who should have sense will believe certain Republicans are rehabilitated. I've seen some try to make Republicans like W. Bush, McCain, and Romney out like they're decent people.

Certain folks think real life was like the show The West Wing before Trump came along or something.

Romney always seemed like a decent person. Whether that translated into being a decent president is obviously a different story.

No, Trump will still wield enough power to influence down ballot candidacies. Some of these people you won't be able into shame into disliking him. Least not til he's dead.

Here? Probably

Republicans are fighting amongst themselves to either remove anti-LBGTQ language from their official platform or make it stronger: https://www.vanityfair.com/news/2020/06/republican-party-keeping-2016-platform-2020
Trump basically hardlined on the issue and caused the party not to update their platform at all. If they just roll it over, they'll keep such language as,
We deplore the efforts of Congressional Democrats and the current President to eliminate this successful program for disadvantaged students in order to placate the leaders of the teachers unions.

The Middle East is more dangerous now than at any time since the Second World War. Whatever their disagreements, presidents of both parties had always prioritized Americas national interests, the trust of friendly governments, and the security of Israel. That sound consensus was replaced with impotent grandstanding on the part of the current President and his Secretaries of State. The results have been ruinous for all parties except Islamic terrorists and their Iranian and other sponsors.

Anti-LBGTQ language:
That same provision of law is now being used by bureaucrats and by the current President of the United States to impose a social and cultural revolution upon the American people by wrongly redefining sex discrimination to include sexual orientation or other categories. Their agenda has nothing to do with individual rights; it has everything to do with power.

Trump is just some incompetent loudmouth who a bunch of people believe cuz they're idiots.
So they get no forgiveness regardless of how they feel about Trump. Lol

Bush was a warlord responsible for the butchering of many civilians, for example. I'm not convinced that Trump is inherently worse than him. He's just less afraid than Bush to blatantly say the stupid shit loud and proud.

Who is this directed to though?

I've never voted for GOP and don't plan to. I don't plan on forgiving anyone for supporting Trump, but my "forgiveness" doesn't mean anything anyway.

Then you have Trump trolls who obviously don't care.

And then you have conservatives who went along with Trump until he won and then turned against him. But those people would love for us to forgive conservatives who are dumping Trump.
