Yeah. He had debts and was hiding out from loansharks. When the family was sleeping or away on trips, he would come out to eat their food.

That was excellent.

It was interesting to see what finally made the dad snap... and it was seeing Mr. Park react to the Housekeepers Wife like he was trash. Just like Mr. Park made Mr. Kim feel like.

As for who is the parasite? I mean, everyone is living off of money. Social inequality necessitates some people having to live like a parasite off of someone else.

Also I kinda didn't mind the rich family until the mom and dad were fetishizing being poor.

Like... really? Wear the poor panties, it'll make me cum harder?

I really didn't like it, I've watched a decent number of Korean dramas and Parasite is the worst I've seen.

What Korean movies have you seen to where arguably one of the best Korean directors of all time (and arguably one of his own best films) is the worst you have seen?

Both families are parasites. The poor family is obvious because they were leeching off of the rich to get their money. And the rich family because they needed the assistance of the poor family to feel securely about their lives.

I also found it really interesting how the rich family fetishized the poor. It was weird to see him talk about cumming hard if his wife wore the "poor panties" and her begging for drugs as a sexual joke.

Not as many as I thought, but I'd say either The Handmaiden or On the Beach at Night Alone are the best Korean films I've seen. I'd consider them both near perfect. Parasite had a promising first half but descends into bad comedy and that it doesn't make it explicit that the rich family are parasites didn't sit well with me. I know it's an English language film but Snowpiercer by the same director makes me think social commentary is just something he's clumsy and poor at.

I think the issues is you are expecting or wanting him to be subtle about it or realistic with his social commentary.

That's not Bong in the slightest. His social commentary is about making it as blunt and weird as possible against the background of "normalcy". He's never made a conventional film really. There's always something off in his films and it's by design.

Not sure about your criticism about the rich family though. They weren't really portrayed as good people. I mean they used their employees until they weren't useful (they fired the driver with no real investigation, just the word of this brand new employee, they fired a woman because she may have been sick and obviously gave no real concern for her). They hired four total strangers off the recommendation of themselves without any background check, putting their children in danger. Hell their daughter was sexually harassed/taken advantage of by her "tutor".

They were the supporting characters so they weren't given as much time to show what kinds of pieces of shit they were but the specific incidents that were shown, we do see that they are pretty uncaring to the lower classes and pretty bad parents.

Wut. It definitely paints the rich family as parasites. And every Bong Joon Ho movie is about classism and are social commentary. That's like his thing.

Doesn't that make it a symbiotic relationship?

It's mutually parasitic because both families are hurting each other in some form or another.
