no hair salons means having long hair for the first time and can't seem to look good with long hair.

I just cut my own after watching a Brad Mondo tutorial and people have been constantly commenting that it looks like a salon quality cut. I did spend like $150 on supplies to get started tho.
Otherwise, if you're going to style your hair, especially if it's longer you're going to have to use a product that has actual hold. A matte texture paste (Redken has the best one I've used) or a spray styling wax (I use Ion), will give you a lot of varied styles you can try out. These types of products have much lighter hold compared to hair spray and styling gel, so your hair won't be stiff, but it will maintain whichever shape you style it into. Other useful tools for styling your hair are a spray bottle, bobby pins, and a flat (thin hair) or round (thick hair) brush. --- ... Copied to Clipboard!

TC it's probably because you have a cut that isn't suitable for long hair.
For instance, I have a side part so the hair on one side of my part is longer while the other side is shorter. If I just let it grow out, it'll look stupid no matter what. --- ... Copied to Clipboard!

Honestly, even if you were to just spend $30 on a Craft hair razor, you would be able to get a decent cut as long as you followed the shape of your head and didn't press it in toward your scalp. You couldn't give yourself a fade with it, but for how easy and effective it is, it's well worth it to just have one on hand.
