and imply it means get rid of police and have anarchy...what do you get out of being obtuse? its been explained to you all. the vast majority is not advocating eliminating police. defund does not mean get rid of and the plan behind the theory of defunding has been explained...why do you continue to pretend to be oblivious? What does that add to your argument?

I mean I do think it's an issue that A) the word "defund" is being used, as it does imply a total defunding, so if that's not what's being proposed a different word should be used, and B) some people do mean "eliminating police," so having different groups of people using the same word for vastly different goals is less clear than it could be.

a) ok, good point, but after its explained the reaction here should be "Oh...ok." not continuing to say it sarcastically. b) I haven't really seen anyone here on CE say they want that. Most here want reform and redistribution of funds to achieve that...so why do people here keep saying it sarcastically?

You need to know your local beat cop, personally.
That's were we started fucking up, when we forgot that.

I get what you're saying and I don't disagree, although I don't think "abolish the police" would be too crazy a slogan if people did start using it genuinely. I mean, "abolish ICE" is a thing. While these services are vital and must be performed by someone, the current institutions are rotten to the core and may need to be completely flushed and rebuilt in some cases.

Camden, NJ abolished the police in 2013 (firing every single officer) and then successfully built a new police force, hiring back many of the same people while rewriting the culture. This may be the only realistic solution for some regions if police unions refuse to reform.
