What do you think?

Do you think Police should be authorized to kill someone if they aim a non lethal taser gun at them?

If a person is an immediate danger to your life or physical health, yes, you can use lethal force to defend yourself. A taser cannot be discharged repeatedly though. It's like retaliating for having a knife thrown at you after the knife has already missed.

Even that, I could see happening in the heat of the moment. But that doesn't let the officers off the hook for cleaning up the evidence of the shooting with latex gloves on or waiting two minutes to check to see if the victim had a pulse.

no. cops often use the "it isn't lethal" excuse to get away with constantly tazing people. but when the tables are turned they pretend like the tazer will kill them, and shoot the person.

in today's case, the victim was fleeing and he was shot in the back. even if you are trying to say he was going to stick around and taze over and over or disarm the cop while he's out of commision or something like that....he didn't. he tazed once or tried to taze (I don't remember the details) but he was running away when he got shot. they shot a fleeing man in the back just cause he had stolen a non lethal weapon that cops love to use on us.

No, but don't escalate the situation like that.

Absolutely. A taser is a potentially lethal weapon, even I'm good circumstances, and a cop shouldn't be expected to take the risk to take you down with nonlethal means.

HOWEVER

When you're fleeing and they shoot you in the back it doesn't matter a goddamn bit what you did or didn't do with the taser.

then why do cops use it on people every day? and when asked about it they say "doesn't matter. it's non lethal, quit worrying about it"

Yes. 100%. And dude wasn't fleeing like the guy above is saying. The videos proved that the dead guy started running and then turned to tase a police office.

I am glad that the police are safe and the extremely violent criminal got what he deserved.

I'd say yes in a one on one situation where a warning is issued, or otherwise if there is immediate danger of the cop's gun being stolen. Possession of the taser itself, no.

cops call it a "non lethal weapon" when they deploy it every day on american citizens.

I think if they have confirmed its a non lethal weapon then they shouldnt be able to use lethal force.

Yes, who knows what he would have done afterward if they allowed him to escape. Regardless he shouldnt have escalated things to where it ended in the first place.

It is a weapon used to disable. If it disables a cop there is nothing stopping the suspect from taking the cops gun at that point

Less than lethal is the official term. It is a low chance of killing, but the chance is always there. They're far overused by police, but do have a legitimate place.

Still a fucking atrocious shooting though.

He passed out drunk in a drive through. He'd probably pass out again trying to get food.

I don't believe it's the act of tasing that is a concern, but the aftermath. A person tased most likely is unable to defend themselves. In the case of a police officer who carries a weapon, that weapon they are carrying can now fall into the hands of the 'taser,' etc. Those who threatening police are more or less doing it to escape and are desperate - what else will/can they do?
