Derek trying to justify Rodney Kings beating by saying he was a criminal. You see the same thing from racists today with George Floyd

She was hot. Too bad she fell into hate and turned on the man she loved when she realized he renounced his hate. Hell its clear he loved her more when he tried to run away from the gang with her but she refused

I guess I agree, clearly his dad is supposed to be written as mildly racist, and his death sent ed nortons character down the wrong path

If someone said their favorite movie is the first half of American History X, what does that say about them? >_>

That movie should have been called American Future X

I heard there was a deleted scene at the end where Derek shaved his head after Danny got shot.

I looked it up and that's just an alternate ending the director had in mind but ultimately felt like it cheapened Derek's redemption.

It was a movie very loosely based on a real person and the alternate ending was meant to showcase that you can't ever really escape hate except the guy who it's based on did escape and still actively advocates against white supremacy.

I think this scene is very relevant for people today also:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RgIMuTELzXI

Derek is redeemed by a his black professor, who was consumed with the same anger that was consuming Derek. He used to blame everyone and everything for things happening to him and his people. "Blame white people, blame society, blame God." That anger wrought the same destruction on the Professor's life as Derek's on his.

The movie is a lot deeper than just "white supremacy is bad" and is relevant to people on both sides of the race issues today.
